As we continue our journey learning through the variety of social and theological contexts the historical church writings have come to us, we have been in the generation of AD 110 – 150 for quite some time. We have been looking particularly at the work of Justin Martyr.

In Pt. 8, we read through, talked about, and studied further regarding Justin 1st Apology, which you can review at the following link (also, I will be writing a blog review of the apology soon enough), http://www.bluepointbiblechurch.org/peace/?p=2951

For the next portion of our study we are going to review Justin Martyr’s dialogue with Trypho the Jew.

You can review that resource through audio or by reading. Consider the resources below.

“The True Philosophy”

“That according to which we worship the God of the Christians, whom we reckon to be one from the beginning, the maker and fashioner of the whole creation, visible and invisible; and the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who had also been preached beforehand by the prophets as about to be present with the race of men, the herald of salvation and teacher of good disciples. And I, being a man, think that what I can say is insignificant in comparison with His boundless divinity, acknowledging a certain prophetic power, since it was prophesied concerning Him of whom now I say that He is the Son of God. For I know that of old the prophets foretold His appearance among men.” – Justin Martyr

“The True Fast”

“Learn, therefore, to keep the true fast of God, as Isaiah says, that you may please God.” – Justin Martyr

———————————————

Justin Martyr surely looked for a future coming, however he cited Christ’s coming on the clouds in the future as a fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy. He thought that was still in the future. Yet….many futurists have agreed that the “coming in the clouds” of Matthew chapters 16 and 24 have occured in fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy.
